Hey doctors / nurses, give your stethoscope some LOVE!!
How often do you clean your stethoscope?
Once a month?
Once a year?
or NEVER (o_O)!?
Oh No! Do you know that deadly infection can be spread by dirty stethoscopes? Imagine when your lovely sweety pinkish stethoscope become a vehicle of infection transmission in the hospital.
To prevent this from happening, you should know how to keep your stethoscope clean & in great shape?
1) Give your stethoscope some love
Your 3M™ Littmann® Stethoscope is designed to provide years of reliable service. Cleaning it routinely ensures optimal acoustic performance, helps extend the life of the scope, and leaves it looking shiny and new.
2) General Cleaning Tips (make it a routine, like you brushing your white shiny teeth twice a day!)
- If your stethoscope needs to be disinfected, wipe with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution.
- Do not immerse your stethoscope in any liquid or subject it to any sterilization process
- Keep your stethoscope away from extreme heat, cold, solvents and oils.
- Eartips can be removed from the eartubes for thorough cleaning.
3) Focusing on Tubes
Most Littmann® Stethoscopes feature tubing made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC becomes hard when exposed to skin for long periods of time. If you like to wear your stethoscope around your neck, wear it over a collar to keep the tubing flexible.
